learning ham radio?

I am reading arrl's technician level license manual.. wow... There sure seems like a lot to do and remember.. Is it really all that difficult?? or is it like a lot of stuff you learned in school..(stuff you have to learn but never use??) I have been hoping that the more I read the more it will make sense.. and in a way it does, but in a way it just seems like so much I have to remember and it all starts running together and gets muddled.. Any words of encouragement, or wisdom out there?? Thanx in advance..

What do you need to get started in ham radio?

I've been interested in getting into ham radio for a while, I mean I've heard some pretty cool stuff about it, from listening to astronauts to talking to people in Australia. How much money should I expect to spend on equipment and permits? I mean will something inexpensive such as this: http://www.westcoastmall.net/connex-ham-transceiver/1598/p perform well? Also any age ristrictions on permits (I'm 15)? Any recomended reading material apreshiated as well. Thanks in advance.

I am looking for a store in the central-minnesota area or a website (not ebay or amazon or anything like that) to buy a nice new or used portable ham transceiver (not scanner) to use for $100 or less. And yes, I do know that you need a ham radio license. Thanks!

Ham Radio Question: Old 10-meter transceiver?

nurseman916 said:

I have an old 10-meter ham radio transceiver.
I tried to sell it on eBay, and was told it is now illegal to sell such items. I guess the spectrum changed or something.
Ebay gave me this site to explain it:

http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/

But, I cannot make head or tails of the gobbledegook government speak.

Can any tell me in plain English why the old 10-meter transceiver is illegal now??
