How do you send data on a ham radio?

I would like to be able to transmit a signal from my wireless router to a ham radio, so that I can use a transceiver and other WLAN equipment so that I can access my home Internet connection from anywhere. (I don't need to know what I need as far as radio equip, but I need to know how to get the LAN data on the airwaves)

Essentially this is a Wireless router with a really strong attenena.

No idea, but searches on ‘packet radio’, ‘amateur radio 2.4Ghz’ give some ideas. Basically, licensed amateur radio operators can use higher amplifications than off-the-shelf consumer wireless ethernet gear.

Due to FCC regulations, you can’t transmit data over amateur radio (voice) bands. Amateur radio is what you’re referring to as ham radio.

Also, amateur voice communications gear do not have the bandwidth necessary to transmit packet data.

Wireless router all that does is transmit radio waves to your electronics equipment (computer, printer, etc.) For a short distance due to low wattage and no large antenna.
    Around 1000 ft.max wireless G Maybe 1200 Ft. max wireless N?

The technology is there to make it happen. However it is against FCC regulations and also against the Law to do this.
There is technology out there to send a signal off of the wireless router for miles. On the hand this would make the ISP’s go out of business….and Mobile communications companies also. Definetly against FCC regulations.
