learning ham radio?

I am reading arrl's technician level license manual.. wow... There sure seems like a lot to do and remember.. Is it really all that difficult?? or is it like a lot of stuff you learned in school..(stuff you have to learn but never use??) I have been hoping that the more I read the more it will make sense.. and in a way it does, but in a way it just seems like so much I have to remember and it all starts running together and gets muddled.. Any words of encouragement, or wisdom out there?? Thanx in advance..

I took a ham radio course at age 40, seemed kind of hard at first, but it does get easier as you go along. If you need extra help try. I’ve found HAMS to be great folks who enjoy helping others learn the craft.

Just keep at it. A lot of the information you will find helpful as time goes by. There is a lot of important information.

Make sure you got the book that covers the *new* question pool that went into effect this July. (2006) The older manuals have some of the same questions; but many have changed.

The practice tests on eham.net can help to, in order to help you determine when you are ready to take the test.

Don’t overload yourself…. study until you start to get confused… then take a rest and come back later or wait until the next day. Study at a comfortable pace…. don’t cram. Things will come to you…. remember, the hobby is there waiting for you. It will still be there when you are ready.

    Good luck :)

Learn as much as you can about theory and operation, then go learn how to take the exam through an online testing site. You can also just print out the answers and memorize the questions. eHam and QRZ both are great website to get information from.
