Used Ham Radio - How to Buy or Sell on Ebay, Hamfests or Online

You can make money buying and selling Ham Radios on ebay and other classified sites available ion the internet.

When buying on ebay its is very important that you know the value of the equipment your buying and most of all you need to know what you can sell it for.  Usually buyers and sellers are ham Radio Operators with some experience.  I do not recomend trying to make money if your not experienced in this field.

Most important you need to be sure that the radio your buying is operational.  Some ebay sellers will sell you a piece of junk and tell you it operated fine.  If you can email the seller and ask some questions, gain more pictures or have a chance to talk to the seller on the phone, that will help you in deciding if the radio works or not.   There is also a market for non-working radios so  your not totally out of luck if you get a radio that needs work.  Many Hams would be happy to buy a non-working radio at a good reduced price and fix it himself.

Ebay is not the only place you can resell the radios you buy.  You can list on classified sites like www.hamkey.com which offers Free ads and has a large readership.  Craiglist and other local ads sites are also a good source for buying and selling.   I have personally picked up some really good deals on Craiglist and resold at a large profit.  People that list on these sites usually do not know the real value of the units so you can usually get some really good deals but be sure to check these sites daily because the good deals will go fast.

Amateur Radio is a fun hobby and many Hams like to collect the old tube radio transmitters and receivers.  You will find that this old equipment will bring high prices.  Someone is always looking for the radio they had when they first started and will pay almost anything to get another one.

Hamfests or Ham Conventions are fun places to buy and sell.  Usually held on weekends, they are well worth visiting.   The Dayton Hamvention is one of the largest and held in Dayton Ohio every may.  Over 23,000 Hams were there this past year for the weekend event.  Visiting the ARRL Website will also give you valuable information on which Hamfest are in your area and the dates.

I've been a Ham Operator for over 48 yrs and enjoy collecting the old "Boatanchor" radios.  I enjoy buying and selling at local Hamfests.  My favorite site for buying and finding deals is www.hamradiofinder.com

Ham Radio Question: Old 10-meter transceiver?

nurseman916 said:

I have an old 10-meter ham radio transceiver.
I tried to sell it on eBay, and was told it is now illegal to sell such items. I guess the spectrum changed or something.
Ebay gave me this site to explain it:

http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/

But, I cannot make head or tails of the gobbledegook government speak.

Can any tell me in plain English why the old 10-meter transceiver is illegal now??
